The University will reduce energy use, measured by kWh per square meter, by 10 percent to 2015 compared to 2008. The University will in 2015 only to use electricity and heat from renewable sources.
During the past five years, several energy conservation measures have been implemented and the focus has been on both technology and behavioral changes for employees and students. For example, buildings have been converted from oil heating to district heating, energy conservation campaigns have been conducted, and renewable labeled energy is purchased.
Since the University does not own their own buildings, it is important to work on energy saving measures in close collaboration with property owners. In recent years this collaboration has improved, and with detailed figures of energy consumption, it is now much easier to analyze the impact of behavioral changes.
The university is according to the regulation on “energy efficient measures for public authorities” obligated to purchase the most energy efficient equipment when old equipment is being replaced.
